Construction Begins: Crafting an Arts and Crafts Home
Having secured planning permission last August, this is our first venture in Harrow. The goal is to sensitively renovate a 1900s Arts & Crafts-style home. A two-storey extension will be added to the front facade, featuring a new staircase and a dedicated gallery space to display the client’s remarkable art collection. Relocating the original staircase has allowed us to enhance the flow of the space across both floors, resulting in a more seamless and functional layout.
On the first floor, we have added an extension which will again refine the existing layout, while a new master suite will be positioned above the kitchen. This presented the challenge of integrating the new structure with the existing one, both structurally and aesthetically. To achieve this, we’ve opted for rendering the rear and side facades, and incorporated a striking timber-framed projection that elegantly connects the ground and first floors. Recessed brick detailing between the glazing adds a subtle yet contemporary nuance to the facade.
For the front elevation, we’ve chosen to use reclaimed bricks to complement the original structure, arranged in a bold yet refined pattern. This approach not only preserves the home’s character but also gives the extension a distinctive identity of its own.
We look forward to seeing the progress in the coming months and are excited for the completed project, ready for our clients to return to their newly transformed space.
